Ogilvy Family The branch of my Ogilvy family which eventually settled in Australia in the mid 1800s is derived from the Ogilvys of Shetland. John Ogilvy of Stove, the younger son of Ogilvy of Miltoun settled in Shetland in 1700, and in the early 1860s his great-great grandson established an Australian branch of the family. This great-great grandson was Charles Ogilvy and when he arrived in Australia, he brought with him a family history written by his father, also named Charles, which has been added to by subsequent generations.
After arriving in Australia Charles Ogilvy and his wife Margaretta Lynn lived at Maldon, Ballarat and Buninyong before becoming one of the first 79 selectors at Mirboo North. Charles Ogilvy became heavily involved in local affairs as a councillor and public speaker.Family History Pages | Main Surname Page | Unconnected Moncrieff Names | Unconnected Rome Names | Elrington | Moncrieff | | Rome | | Read | Ogilvy | Illawarra at War ![]()
