Burnishing is an old method of polishing metal. By rubbing
the surface of the metal to be polished with a
highly polished piece of steel called a burnisher,
the surface itself becomes polished.

ANTIQUING is a method of surface colouring, so called
because Silver blackens with age, and in the
presence of sulphur, if it is not polished.
Chemically, tarnishing forms a Silver Sulphide,
and in the case of Sterling Silver, a copper
sulphide as well. Silver Sulphide, can be many
colours, but the most common is dark grey to black
